Rhyme & Reason offers a superb selection of books for children of all ages.
The room for younger children contains a treasure trove of the best picture
books with groupings by theme, author and illustrator. Multicultural books
are well represented, and you'll find a delightful range of board books,
touch and feel, lift the flap and pop-up books as well as first reading
books, fairy tales and poems.
For older children, there's a wide range of fiction, poetry, humour, history, science and reference books. Friendly staff are available to advise children, parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone looking for a recommendation.
The shop also sells Book Tokens, birthday cards, activity and colouring books, wrapping paper, bookmarks, posters and wall-charts.
Books make lovely gifts at any time and the shop stocks an excellent range of classics in beautiful editions. We can help you choose an appropriate gift for any age according to your budget.
A key speciality of Rhyme & Reason is books about parenting, play, child health and development. We stock a good selection of books on many aspects of parenting - from babyhood to the teenage years - and can provide displays, information or books to parents' evenings and other groups.
Rhyme & Reason selects books to help children prepare for special experiences, feelings and situations, such as first day at school, going to hospital and moving house. There's also a range of books about friendship, sibling and family relationships and difficult situations such as parental separation or bereavement in the family. You'll find a variety of books for different ages about the human body, where babies come from and, for older children, about puberty, sex and other teenage issues.
Rhyme & Reason can provide information and advice about books or organise displays, bookstalls and activities for pre-school events based on our brilliant selection of books for under 5s.
Rhyme & Reason works with schools to promote reading and the enjoyment of books. We can help organise visits by authors and illustrators to schools. Writers we have introduced to Sheffield schools include: Jeremy Strong, Alan Gibbons, Jamila Gavin, the 'two Steves' (Steve Barlow & Steve Skidmore), Ian Whybrow, John Foster, Berlie Doherty and Jenny Nimmo. Schools interested in promoting literacy and creativity in this way are invited to contact us to discuss ideas for a visit by a writer.
We can provide tailor-made selections of books for school book stalls at parents' evenings, fairs and Book Weeks. Please contact us for details: enquiries@rhyme-reason.co.uk
Rhyme & Reason supplies books to a number of schools and school libraries. Our strong points are personal service and the ability to offer advice and information, as well as the speed of our ordering service (2-3 days, subject to availability). Schools are generally offered a discount on their purchases.
Rhyme & Reason organises festive events and activities for children to do with books and favourite characters. Earlier this year we brought the Cat in the Hat to a children's event in Norfolk Park and to visit the Sheffield Children's Hospital. We've also arranged for Maisy and Elmer to visit schools and special events in Sheffield.
Rhyme & Reason organises book stalls at community events such as school fairs, coffee mornings and playgroups.
